Finally, a new drawing. Was sick of seeing the latest stamp I did on my front page...xD First November pic too!
Okay, so, it's the Berenstain Bears again! Been dying to make a B Bear-related drawing again...This idea is quite old though, it's not recent, I've had it in my mind for a long, long time but I was never sure to make it because I thought it would come out like crap. But I decided just to go ahead and draw it now since I've improved some, and the result is FANTASTIC, I LOVE IT. Worked very hard on this. Did it totally from scratch in Sketchbook Pro. (Finally, missed it... *hugs program tightly* ) I'm amazed Sketchbook didn't crash because for this pic, I had to use...SO.MANY.FREAKIN'.LAYERS. Since this is the first time I've tried doing, well, I won't say "lineless" since there are still lines, but I tried doing colored lines instead of the usual black outlines. And I'm happy it came out pretty good.
So yeah, here's Brother Bear and Sister Bear outside at night on a grassy hill, making wishes on fireflies. Interestingly, I got the idea from listening to the song "Airplanes" by rapper B.O.B. But instead of airplanes, I used fireflies. Kind of silly, heh. But I am estatic with how wonderful this turned out, especially with the background, I'm glad it's half decent. And it's not a plain old, white, boring background. Had such a problem drawing the clouds though. I don't understand why in real life, clouds look perfect with any kind of shape they look like, when I look up and study them for reference. But when it comes down to drawing them, for me, in different wacky shapes, it just looks so wierd and eww. But I kept trying, 'til I finally got the clouds to look somewhat good, and not some huge blob. Had lots of fun with the some of the preset brushes Sketchbook Pro had. Especially for the grass and the stars. And I was going to do shading on this pic, but I still suck at shading. :-\ So meh, won't be bothered. >.< I'll keep getting better eventually as I keep on practicing. And I'm sorry if Sister's eyes look scary. I'm still experimenting with eye style...still haven't found anything I've liked yet, without copying someone...
I'd also like to dedicate this picture to the creators of the Berenstain Bears both of which have died. (Stan)ley Berenstain (the real Papa Bear) died on November 26, 2005 of cancer. And (Jan)ice Berenstain (the real Mama Bear) died February 24, 2012 of a stroke. May they rest in peace. Also to celebrate the Berenstain Bears movie coming out soon this year, supposedly. I can't wait to see it. If it doesn't come out this year, then I hope next year. It's too bad the creators died before being able to see their beloved creations on the big screen...
Got more pics coming up! Sorry, I've been kinda slow, been really tired, and now that I have to keep looking for a job, it may take away some of my drawing time. Which would suck...but oh, well.
Well, I hope you guys like this picture. I love it alot, so proud of mahself. Gotta love those bears. I love the Berenstains. They're so awesome and cute.
Lol, me too. I did the same thing. Though I still buy the books, since I'm still a huge fan. I even bought some of the new, religious ones!! (At least the ones that don't have a cross, or church, or any saints and stuff.)
And thank you very much!! I think I'm going to update the colors on the bears though...they look too much like they're in daytime instead of nighttime. Going to see if I can fix that....
Oh wow, so it's been a long time for you, heheheh. XD But yeah, I recommend the newest BB books out there! They're great!! Even though both creators have died, one of their sons is continuing the series. Which makes me very happy.
Oh, I even sent fanmail to Stan and Jan Berenstain once!!! And they replied back too, it was awesome!!!
Hi and thank you for creating this wonderful piece!!!! It brought back soooo many memories Im sure that the Berenstains would have been very proud to see this
Here are my tips.... I saw all your pictures and as you gradually created more and more... i noticed that you keep on improving! You are always observing your previous work and learning from it so that you can take your next pic to the next level!!!! THATS HUGE! You remind me of myself back in the good old days when i was at this stage! I always wanted to do better and better! I can really see the effort that you put in this piece!! You have the talent and the determination to keep on growing and learning which is something that every artist needs And you have it!
Now... what can you do to improve... take notes! GESTURES!!! Gestures really make a pose look more animated and it brings the character to life!!! Try it out on your next pic and you will see the difference! The next tip is COLOR CONCEPT! Color concept is hard at first to understand! but once you learn it... you will take your artwork to the next level!!! For example, on this piece, the characters are surrounded by a dark night sky but the characters are soooo bright as if it were day light! The fur color should be darker or cooler so that the characters can really blend into the background. If you still have the drawing file with the layers, try modifying the colors you will love the end result! Give it that fairytale dreamy look
Great JOB!!! keep practicing, observing and learning! I can't wait to see what you will be like in a year from now
Wow, such a long comment!!! 'Kay, gonna answer step by step.
First of all, thank you so much!!!! I am filled with glee. And yeah, I would have loved to have shown this to the creators, but... *Sigh* It's too bad...
And that is awesome and very uplifting to hear, I really want to keep get better with my art, even if I just do it for a hobby, I really enjoy it and I love showing my art off to people. And yeah, I keep all of my drawings and sometimes and I redraw some of them to see how much I've improved ...I'm also very happy to hear you think I have talent. Most of the time, I think I really don't have artistic talent, but I DO. So yeah, I REALLY want to get better...I'm always looking for tutorials on YouTube or in drawing books as well to help me out.
And okay, gestures. Yeah, I gotta improve more on that, but here, I did try to do that...but yeah, I gotcha. I will. And yeah, I agree with them looking like they're in daytime rather than nighttime. I was going to shade them, but I'm still not very good with that... And I could've tried giving them darker colors, but since this is the first time I've drawn colored lines instead of black, I didn't want to mess it up too much... But I will keep that in mind, definitely. (I might be able to fix that now...I still have the image saved with all the layers, so I'll do that if I can! )
Thanks a lot for the comment and critique!!! I really appreciate it alot!!!
This turned out great, though~ o v o
And thank you very much!!
You're welcome! And yeah, that may add more to the picture ^^
And yeah, I'mma try to fix that if I'm able to...
Oh, I even sent fanmail to Stan and Jan Berenstain once!!!
Ahh, that's awesome! ouo
And yep!!! I hope I can find what they sent me, so I'll post it up in my Scraps sometime... o3o If I've lost it, I'll cry in a corner... ;_________;
Im sure that the Berenstains would have been very proud to see this
